Colorful Sunroom

Anyone who has had any experience with the design process knows that to achieve the best results time is required.  This project began in December 2009.  The homeowners are long time clients (almost 30 years).  The setting is the sunroom added to the turn of the century house in the early 1970's.  The sunroon is glassed on all but one side and looks out onto a beautiful property with lovely trees, fish pond , wild game and flowering plants in season.  Adjacent to the sunroom is the kitchen, painted a parrot green and french doors to the foyer and dining room.  This room serves as the center of the house and bears much traffic.  Two Great Danes are a part of the family and needed to be accommodated as well.  We did not want any furniture distracting the watching of birds, wild turkey, deer and the beautiful flower beds or fish pond.

The owners are most comfortable in the wingback chairs that were purchased over 25 years ago.  The chairs are good quality and this will be there third or fourth transition. The chair is pictured at left, above in the previous plaid fabric and on the right, above in a linen ikat from Lee Jofa:  David Easton Design; Westmount Wall  in red, http://www.leejofa.com/  which   was selected to replace the tired plaid.  It was chosen  for its timeless pattern, bright colors and durability.
We were looking for  an overall pattern that would work well with the bright floral pattern we selected for the four new chairs and two ottomans pictured above.   The backs on the chairs are low so the view from the windows will be less obstructed.   These Pearson Company , http://www.pearsoncompany.com/ , furniture  pieces will replace a bamboo sofa and matching chairs.  We are hoping that the Danes won't be able to plop themselves in the new chairs and will be happy using their dog sofas.  The furniture is completed with two antique rockers, an antique wicker chair, an antique maple bench.  The cushions for these have been reworked using vintage ikat pieces from Uzbekistan.  Photos to come of all cushions for these pieces.    New outdoor quality rugs and the client's lamps and tables should give this room that lived in look that is inviting and cozy.  This project should be completed by end of March or the first of April.  I look forward to posting photos of the room when it is completed.

Hopefully by the next post the walls will have a fresh coat of paint, hardwood floors will be oiled and the transformation will be complete.

  1. This is going to be wonderful! I love the Pearson chair..looks so comfy. I can just imagine this next to their wonderful kitchen. I wish I could spend my time looking at wonderful fabrics and paint colors...although I know it is certainly not as simplistic as that. You do wonderful work.
