Kitchen Confidential: Part IV

The kitchen is painted, some of the new and old items are in place.  Going from Signal Red to Italian Straw paint has been traumatic for me.  Don't know when that will feel normal.  Have not done new counter tops yet  and perhaps that will pull the look together.  I am still in a dilema regarding the table in front of the settee.

The English Pub table is beautiful and quite functional.  We have had several meals here and it as cozy as I imagined.  I have been on my computer blogging and it works just fine for that too.  Sadly the table is too high and too large.  I am just not sure I am willing to give up the function for the look.  We have tried this space with a tea table [ barely enough room for a cup] and I also I tried an antique card table I pulled from the attic [functional but temporary].  Dilemma:  Leave the table we love that works for the two of us or find one that is round and smaller that gives room for folks we entertain to feel invited into this area?  That decision will have to wait for awhile as there are so many final issues to resolve.  I could certainly use some comments and suggestions here so have at it.

The chartreuse light fixture is going to replace the pendant light over the sink.  I will have to move down a notch in wattage as it already is bright enough to land a plane in the kitchen and one more chandelier will add to this problem.  I like good light is the kitchen but 360 watts plus 240 watts is just overwhelming.

New fixture over island turned down with dimmer.  Love this light.  Perfect.
Pendant light over the sink currently looks sad.  Whimsical chartreuse light to the rescue.
Here are more photos.  Need more art and will definitely change as time goes and seasons change.

Arts and Crafts chair with new fabric.  Beautiful and comfortable.

Overall view from kitchen.  That tiny inappropriate light definitely has to go.
Here are a few views of the kitchen without the new counters.

More to come as progress is made.  Maybe new thoughts will come to me as I do my taxes.  Doubtful though as doing taxes just doesn't fit into my creative thought pattern.

  1. When you say the table works for your computer but is too high, are you saying that sitting on the settee places you too uncomfortably low to eat at this table? Any way you could elevate the settee? Elevate the cushions? It is a great look. I also looked at the table base. I'll be you could find yourself a good carpenter and lower the table base.

  2. Great suggestions Katherine. Richard said last evening as we sat to eat supper he needed extra cushions but I think I can elevate the whole settee with some sort of block at the legs. Since it is an antique I hate to cut the table legs. Thanks for the comments and thanks for reading.

  3. I think you are suffering from color withdrawal as the whole effect is subtly beautiful, very classy. You are doubting your expertise. Don't cut the legs off the table when pillows will solve the height problem.
